The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Thursday continued his nationwide thank you tour with a heartfelt visit to the Bono East Region, where he expressed gratitude to party faithful and reflected on the outcomes of the last general elections.
Addressing a gathering at the Techiman Yaw Kramo Community Center in Bamiri, Dr. Bawumia said the purpose of the tour is rooted in the NPP's belief in showing appreciation to the Ghanaian people after every election, regardless of the results.
Dr. Bawumia candidly acknowledged that one of the main reasons for the party’s loss in the 2024 elections was voter apathy among NPP members. “We lost not because we were not strong, but because many of our own people did not vote,” he noted, urging unity and renewed commitment going forward.
NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, also addressed the gathering, sharing insights from the Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye Committee’s report on the 2024 electoral defeat. According to him, one of the key findings of the report was the growing discontent among grassroots supporters over perceived neglect by the party’s leadership.
“The report indicates that our grassroots felt ignored and disconnected from the top. This must change if we are to win back their trust,” Kodua said.
Representing the National Chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, the party’s 3rd Vice Chairman, Masawudu Osman, expressed optimism about the NPP’s prospects in the 2028 elections. “With unity, hard work, and a commitment from every member to vote, we are confident that the NPP will return to power in 2028,” he declared.
