Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has dismissed threats allegedly made against him by the National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, stressing that he will not be intimidated.

Chief Azorka’s threats followed a heated confrontation on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, after Afenyo-Markin paid an unannounced visit to the NDC’s party office in Akwatia. The move angered party executives, who accused him of deliberately provoking supporters ahead of the crucial by-election.

A visibly agitated Azorka described the Minority Leader’s visit as “highly disrespectful” and “provocative,” further alleging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was deploying intimidation tactics to unsettle NDC supporters.

Responding to the claims, Afenyo-Markin alleged that Azorka had threatened to kill him, adding that this was not the first time such remarks had been made.

“I have heard that the NDC’s Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, said that he wants to ‘kill’ me. We know them—the infamous Azorka Boys; all they know is beating people up and killing others. So, this is not his first time threatening people. But I am not a coward,” he said.

He further urged NPP supporters to remain resolute and not allow fear to dictate their political choices.

“There are foot soldiers on the ground. So, nobody should let the words of Azorka put fear into anybody. We do not do politics with fear; it’s all about courage.

“Our forebearers spent time in jail all for the sake of politics, so don’t let anybody put fear into you,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The development has heightened political tensions in Akwatia, with both the NPP and NDC ramping up their campaigns as the constituency heads into a fiercely contested by-election.
