The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has issued a press statement clarifying his involvement in an incident between residents of Asutifi South and a Military Taskforce deployed on a National Assignment (NAIMOS).

According to the MP, the incident occurred on November 1, 2025, while he was en route to a funeral at Acherensua in the Asutifi South Constituency. Upon learning of tensions at a gold extraction site near Hwidiem, Hon. Addo said he contacted Hon. Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South, who was out of the country at the time. He then proceeded to the scene to assess the situation on Hon. Dauda’s behalf.

Hon. Addo recounted that upon his arrival, he met with the Military team and local youth who had gathered at the site. To prevent further escalation, he advised all parties to move to the police station to file an official report and hand over items and suspects to the authorities.

He added that the road leading to the station had been blocked at the time, prompting his coordination with the Military, Regional Police Crime Officer, NIB operatives, and the Kenyasi Police Commander. The Zongo Chief of Hwidiem was also called in to help calm tensions. During the process, the Chief’s Toyota Sequoia vehicle, which was used to transport some of the officers, was later damaged when its rear glass was smashed.

Hon. Addo emphasized that he had already left the area to attend other funerals when that incident occurred. He firmly denied any allegations that he incited youth against security officers, describing such claims as “false narratives aimed at tarnishing my reputation and undermining my efforts to serve my constituents.”

“As a responsible lawmaker, I offered my support to ensure calmness in the area and will always work together with every security agency to maintain law and order,” he stated.

The MP also expressed disappointment that his contribution to restoring peace was not acknowledged in the police situation report, reiterating his commitment to the welfare and safety of his constituents and all Ghanaians.
