The Member of Parliamentary for Ofoase Ayirebi and a Ranking Member on Economy and Development Committee in the Parliament of Ghana, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged the government to submit programme documents for about 11 flagship initiatives it has already launched to the floor of parliament for oversight.
He highlighted that flagship government programmes like the 24-Hour Economy, Feed Ghana, Agric for Economic Transformation Program, Nkoko Nketekete, among many others are yet to be presented to parliament for thorough scrutiny.
The MP argued that parliamentary oversight is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in government programs and bemoaned that the fiscal data should be available for the people to access it for proper references.
Hon. Oppong Nkrumah addressed this challenge in a roundtable discussion meeting held by the Department of Data Science And Economic Policy of the University of Cape Coast on Monday, 17th, November, 2025, under the theme "From Marco-Stability to Inclusive Prosperity: Data-Driven Strategies for Implementing Ghana's 2026 Budget."
He elaborated that the publications of these documents, provides institutional agencies the responsibility to monitor its operations and the impact on the reduction of unemployment, poverty eradication and others.
"Government till now hasn't submitted the programme documents for about 11 flagship initiatives to Parliament for oversight which includes the Agric for Accelerated Development, Big Push, Feed Ghana, Nkoko Nketekete, among others and this hinders on addressing how the fiscal allocation are allocated and how it will be executed," he said.
Hon. Oppong Nkrumah called on the government to release the documents for these policies to be scrutinized by Parliament, the academia and the citizenry for an enhanced developmental growth for the country.
The roundtable event saw persons from the academia, politics, students and technocratics to deliberate on the developmental policies of Ghana.
Also in attendance was Dr. Sharif M. Khalid, an Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance and Economic Adviser to the Vice President who at the event shed more light on a number of the government's initiated programmes.
He noted that every policy has its critics so as the big push, yet the government is eager to achieve its targets.
"The big push is tied to feed Ghana, 24-hour Economy, but it's infrastructure thrives on good roads that will pave the way to achieve these policies."
Dr. Khalid again expressed that the implementation of the Women's Development Bank will help women to access financial services without the stress of collateral.
