The Member of Parliament for Berekum East, Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, has credited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the late former President Jerry John Rawlings for what he described as the foundational development of the Bono Region.

Confidently, he insisting the area will see further improvement under the current NDC government.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Poku Piesie on ‘Ka Masem Ma Me’ morning show at Sompa Fm-Sunyani, the MP said Bono’s progress in infrastructure and social services explains why he often describes the region as “NDC,” stressing that the claim goes beyond voting patterns.

According to him, some of the most critical interventions that shaped Bono were initiated by NDC governments.

He cited the first asphalt road linking Kumasi to the Bono area, the establishment of the region’s first major hospital, and key water supply projects in towns such as Sunyani and Berekum as achievements under Rawlings’ leadership.

Mr. Ampaabeng Kyeremeh also noted that the only public university in the region was established by an NDC administration, adding that major urban features that define Sunyani as a regional capital including, its principal streets were developed during the Rawlings era.

Touching on electricity access, the MP recalled that Bono was once told power from Akosombo could not reach the then Brong Ahafo Region.

He said the situation changed under Rawlings, when electricity was eventually extended to the area.

“We can only assure you that under this government, Bono will become a better place,” Mr. Kyeremeh said, expressing confidence that ongoing and future interventions would build on what he described as a strong NDC legacy.
