President John Dramani Mahama has directed a major increase in recruitment across Ghana’s security services, raising the intake target from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years.
The directive follows a high-level meeting between the President and heads of key security agencies, alongside the Minister for the Interior and the Acting Minister for Defence.
The meeting focused on reviewing the ongoing recruitment process and addressing the country’s evolving security needs.
According to a statement from the Presidency Communications Office, the decision aims to strengthen national security capacity while creating employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.
The President emphasized that the expanded recruitment must be conducted with strict adherence to transparency and fairness.
Senior officials present at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the National Security Coordinator, and heads of agencies such as the Police Service, Fire Service, Prisons Service, Immigration Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.

Presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications, underscored the administration’s commitment to ensuring integrity in the recruitment process.
The move is expected to bolster the operational strength of Ghana’s security agencies while addressing concerns about manpower shortages in critical sectors.
