President Mahama Nominates Five to Ghana’s Fiscal Council

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Fiscal Council as part of efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline and oversight in public financial management.

The nominations, announced on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by the Presidency, were made in accordance with Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the 2025 Act (Act 1136).

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the nominees include Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah as Chairperson, Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia, and Leslie Dwight Mensah representing a research think tank.

The list also features J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.

The statement noted that the Fiscal Council will play a critical role in promoting fiscal prudence, strengthening financial oversight, and supporting sound decision-making in the country’s public financial management system.

The formation of the Council is expected to reinforce transparency and accountability as the government works to stabilise the economy and ensure sustainable fiscal policies.
