The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held its maiden Social Democrats’ Convocation at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), aimed at educating young lawyers on the party’s democratic principles since 2002.
The initiative brought together key stakeholders, including the Ghana Institute of Democracy, the NDC, the Legal Brain Association, and a network of young legal professionals.
Speaking at the launch, William Ahadzie, CEO of the National Identification Authority, emphasized the importance of deepening democratic education.
He highlighted the NDC’s core values, its ideological foundation in social democracy, and the broader philosophy underpinning democratic governance particularly the role of labour and social inclusion.
He further explained the party’s evolution from radical democracy to social democracy, noting that this transition was shaped by policy realignments and reforms, including a focus on welfare systems to improve citizens’ livelihoods.
Touching on governance issues,
Dr. Ahadzie also shared his views on the demolition of the Office of the Special Prosecutor, while stressing that the government remains committed to tackling illegal mining (galamsey).
He added that under the government’s Reset Agenda, efforts are ongoing to expand road infrastructure as part of a broader strategy to stimulate economic growth and national development.
Mr Festus Martey, President of the Legal Brain Association, described the Social Democrats’ Convocation as a valuable initiative focused on educating and shaping the mindset of young law students on democracy and guiding them in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ideology.
