The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) government against what he described as the continued harassment and intimidation of members of the party following the detention of Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
Speaking to the press on the matter, Salam Mustapha warned that the NPP could strongly resist any further actions it perceives as political persecution against its members.
“If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we’ll weaponize our support base and we’ll make this country extremely ungovernable for them,” he stated.
He further called on the opposition NDC government to ensure the release of Abronye DC, cautioning that the party would hold authorities responsible should anything happen to him while in custody.
“We’re sending this warning and cautioning government to release Abronye otherwise should anything happen to him in custody, he’ll have us to contend with,” he said.
According to Salam Mustapha, the NPP remains a major political force with a significant national support base, citing the more than four million votes secured by the party in the last general election.
He also accused the governing National Democratic Congress administration of persistently targeting opposition members through intimidation and harassment.
The NPP Youth Organizer noted that while the opposition party remains committed to offering constructive criticism and alternative views on governance, it would not remain silent if it believes its members are being unfairly targeted.
The comments come amid heightened political tensions surrounding the detention of Abronye DC, with reactions emerging from both political actors and members of the public.
