The late veteran footballer captained Ghana Blackstars in the 1978 AFCON, which took place in Ghana (Accra and Kumasi); eventually winning Ghana's third AFCON trophy.

He played for the traditional premier league side Great Olympics

He’s the father of former Ghana U-17 hero Awuley Quaye Jnr. and Lawrence Awuley Quaye.
