Ghana U17 World Cup winner Kofi Nimo sadly passes away

Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak defender, Kofi Nimo has reportedly passed away after losing his battle with illness. 

Nimo, a member of the historic Black Starlets team that won the World Cup for the first time in 1991, died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

The ex-Hearts of Oak player died at the age of 50.

He has been reported to be sick for sometime now and frequents the hospital is search of a cure for his illness.

However, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, he passed away.

Nimo was a pivotal figure in the dominant era of Hearts of Oak, starring for the club during the early 90s.

He was also a member of Ghana's Black Satellites in 1993.

Meanwhile, fans have taken to social media to pay tributes to the legendary figure.

Big Joe on X posted: "Kofi Nimo of starlets 91 squad passed away yesterday. He was such a solid defender for Ghana back in the days. May his gentle soul rest in perfect." 

Another X user, Annointing0107x wrote: "R.I.P Legend Mr. KOFI Nimo (Kofi Nimo’s Park Ashaiman) thanks for really contributing to our childhood, Live Forever."
