The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has held a successful engagement session with parents and potential national team players in London as part of efforts to identify and attract young Ghanaian talents abroad into the country’s national team setup.

In a shared post on X by BBC commentator, George Addo Jnr, the event, which took place at the Ghana High Commission in London on Wednesday, was organised by the GFA in collaboration with Coach Hene Sports Club, Ghanaians in the UK, and Prince Lamona Consult.

The session marked the opening phase of a talent identification programme targeting Ghanaian players between the ages of 15 and 20, with scouting activities involving Category One academies scheduled to continue on Thursday.

The programme drew a large turnout, with more than 200 people attending the engagement, reflecting growing interest in Ghana’s efforts to integrate talented young players from the diaspora into the national football structure at an early stage.

Among the personalities who addressed participants were Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Sabah Zita Benson, former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien, GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and Dela Dzebu, mother of Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young Ghanaian talents abroad to connect with the national teams and contribute to the future of Ghana football.

The GFA indicated that the London engagement is only the beginning of a broader initiative, with more sessions expected to be organised in the future as the Association intensifies efforts to scout and recruit talented players early for the various national teams.

“This is only the beginning. We want to engage and attract talented Ghanaian players much earlier into our national team setup,” he said.
