The environmental protection agency (EPA) has warned Ghanaians against expecting ambient air pollution blowing from the Sahara desert in the northern part of the African continent according to Mr. Henry Kokofu.
Dr. Henry Kokofu, the chief executive officer of the environmental protection agency told Omanhene on Sompa Tv/Fm that the ambient carries moisture dust that tends to pollute the air, causing havoc to patients diagnosed with the respiratory and asthmatic disease.
He says the E.P.A together with Ghana Health Service and Ghana Meteorological Authority will soon come out with precautionary measures to help protect individuals against the expected ambient air pollution.
According to him, there's an increased risk of respiratory-related diseases in the air which needs collaborative effort to fight against.
He advised the use of protective materials when going public, especially for those with respiratory diseases.
“It’s advisable to wear nose masks and any form of protective gear when going out, especially to the public, avoid burning car tires that tend to pollute the air, weed around your compound and premises, and drivers should service their vehicles against polluting the air with exhaust pipes” he cautioned.
He added that the environment needs not to be deforested but to plant more trees to help curb any unexpected wind.
