The Nsoatre Traditional Council expressed worry that the lack of a medical practitioner at the Nsoatre Health Center in the Sunyani West Municipality is impeding quality healthcare delivery service in the area.
According to Nana Hene Marfo, they were informed that the Bono Regional Minister ordered the transfer of the previous health director after he attempted to discipline a health worker who allegedly injected patients with drip water instead of the prescribed medication.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Ama Konadu on ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show at Sompa Fm-Sunyani after a recent press conference, Nana Hene Marfo revealed that the situation has significantly affected healthcare delivery in the area.
“People are suffering and dying because there is no doctor in Nsuatre to attend to them when they fall sick,” he said.
Touching on the reasons given for the doctor’s transfer, he indicated that authorities cited alleged malpractice involving the use of intravenous fluids.
“We sought clarification on why the doctor was transferred, and we were told that the doctor used drip water as medicine and administered it to more than ten patients,” he disclosed.
We have gone to speak with the Regional Minister on three different occasions, asking that if the previous health director has been transferred, a new medical doctor should be posted to the facility.”
He stressed that the community is not demanding the return of the transferred doctor but is instead appealing for a replacement to ensure continuous healthcare services.
“We are not saying he should bring back the old doctor, but at least bring us a medical doctor who can take care of the people and manage the hospital. For the past three weeks, all our efforts have yielded no results,” he added.
He, however, urged the Regional Minister to address the public and provide clarity if that explanation does not fully capture the issue.
“If what we have been told is not the actual situation, then the Regional Minister should come out and explain to us why it has taken almost four months without a doctor in Nsuatre,” Nana Hene Marfo demanded.
The traditional council is calling for urgent intervention to restore proper healthcare services to the community.
