Breaking : Tragedy At Asokwa Brewery Traffic Light: Forklift Crushes Traders To Death

A sombre mood has engulfed the Brewery Traffic Light area in the Asokwa Constituency of the Ashanti Region after a tragic accident claimed the life of a hardworking roadside trader.

The victim, identified as Jennifer, a popular pawpaw seller at the Brewery Traffic Light in Kumasi, met her untimely death on Monday, September 21, 2026, after a forklift allegedly suffered brake failure and ran into traders.

According to eyewitness account by one Ama Sefa, who was trading alongside the deceased, the incident occurred while they were selling pawpaw and other items along the main road during a red traffic light.

Ama Sefa recounted that when the traffic light turned green, they moved away from the road to allow vehicles to pass, waiting for the light to turn red again to continue their business.

It was at that moment that the forklift, which was approaching the area, reportedly lost its brakes and veered off its lane towards their direction at top speed.

"I managed to run for my life, but Jennifer could not escape. The forklift hit her, trapped her and dragged her. She died on the spot," Ama Sefa narrated in tears.

Other eyewitnesses at the scene corroborated the account, saying the forklift was moving at an unusual speed before losing control. They blamed the incident on mechanical failure and recklessness.

The body of the deceased has since been conveyed by police to the morgue, while the driver of the forklift is said to be in police custody assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, some traders and residents in the area have called on the Asokwa Municipal

Assembly and city authorities to as a matter of urgency, relocate traders from the traffic light area and enforce strict safety checks on heavy-duty vehicles that ply that route to prevent future occurrences.

They described Jennifer as a peaceful and hardworking young woman who was only trying to make ends meet.

Police are expected to release an official statement in due course
