A bag of ginger is presently selling at GHC5,500 at the Sunyani Masom Masom market, a market survey conducted by the Sunyani-based Sompa FM reveals.
During a visit to the market, Auntie Esi, a ginger seller told Sompa FM that in the previous crop season, the bag of ginger was selling at GHC7,000.
Describing the drop in the price as a great relief to both sellers and consumers, Auntie Esi noted that many consumers were not patronizing the ginger because of the high price.
She expressed concern about the scarcity of ginger nowadays, saying that the high price of the commodity had slowed down consumer demands.
Auntie Esi appealed for government's intervention to stabilize the price of ginger, saying that ginger remained essential vegetable which had numerous health benefits of ginger.
When contacted, Dr Thomas Kyere, a Health Consultant at the Sunyani-based 21st Clinic, specialized in sciatica highlighted the health benefits of ginger.
