Poor telecommunication network has denied residents of Nwawasua and adjoining settlements in the Sunyani Municipality accessing internet connectivity and to participate in the digital space.
As technological evolution turns the world into a global village, the anxious residents described accessing telecommunication network and internet connectivity in the area as frustrating.
Internet connectivity is formally anchored under the Goal Nine of the United National Sustainable Development Goals (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
The global goal specifically targets universal and affordable access to information and communications technology (ICT).
The SDGs four (Quality Education) enjoins countries around the globe to ensure that high-speed school connectivity and digital tools expand remote learning by 2030.
During a visit to the farming community, anxious residents shared their experiences with Sompa saying that the only means they could access or connect to the internet was to either climb a tree or a mountain.
"Poor telecommunication and internet connectivity is one of our major challenges now", a resident stated, worrying that "If you want to make even a mobile phone call here, you have to sometimes climb a tall tree or walk out of the community".
They residents called for the government's intervention to enable them to access better telecommunication networks and also connect to the internet to participate in the digital space.
