Trade Minister Expresses Satisfaction over 18-Acre Proposed Site for Central Regional Garment Factory After Inspection

The Minister for Trade, Industry and Agribusiness and MP for Techiman North, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has expressed satisfaction with the proposed site earmarked for the establishment of a garment factory at Ekon Junction, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region following inspection of the location.

The Minister, who visited the proposed site on Monday, 31st August, 2026, to assess its suitability for the project, commended the location and expressed optimism about its potency to accommodate the planned factory and associated facilities.

The proposed garment factory which forms part of government's three (3) garment factory envisaged to construct across the country and also contributes to the Mahama-led administration's broader efforts to promote industrialisation and expand Ghana's productive capacity.

According to the Minister, the availability of suitable land remains a critical requirement for attracting and establishing sustainable industries.

She said the proposed site provides an important foundation for developing a modern garment manufacturing facility that could serve not only the Central Region but also contribute to Ghana's broader textile and garment industry.

She noted that the project would complement government efforts to promote local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imported products and create sustainable employment opportunities.

The government has consistently emphasised the need to strengthen local manufacturing, create jobs and develop industries capable of adding value to locally available resources.

The Minister said the garment and textile sector has significant potential to contribute to these objectives if supported with the necessary infrastructure, investment, skills and market opportunities.

She indicated that the government would continue engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure that the proposed project progresses from the planning stage to actual implementation.

The proposed project, is expected to contribute to the government's industrialisation and job-creation agenda, is anticipated to create opportunities for young people while strengthening the region's garment and textile value chain.
