The convener and a leading campaigner for Individual Bondholders Forum, Lawyer Martin Kpebu has said they have no alternative than to demonstrate against the government on what he describes as partial discrimination on the debt exchange program.
In a conversation with Omanhene on Sompa Tv, Mr. Kpebu said, they have exhausted all alternatives after writing to the finance minister, the minister in charge of government business, and other stakeholders yet their plea to be excluded from the domestic debt exchange program has proven futile.
He explained that Individual Bondholders were not part of the initial debt exchange program but the government changed the plan rather and included them.
“The individual bondholders were not part of the initial debt exchange, I don't know what happened for him to make a U-turn and include us. We have written to the Finance Minister but he never responded to us, it's only yesterday that the government said he will be meeting stakeholders but we can't be part of that book-long discussion,” he told Omanehene.
He added that he could not understand why organized labor could be exempted and yet the individual bondholders can't be excluded.
“When Organized labor asked the government to exempt their pension funds because they can't use their funds for debt exchange, the government agreed so why can't the government do the same for us, that's the reason we want to storm jubilee house, he added.
Mr. Kpebu said they have also written to the royal majesty for his intervention ahead of their preparation to stage the demonstration.
“We have to give the police adequate time but before that we have also written to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene on our behalf, at least if all pleads fail, I am sure Otumfuo's intervention will be key, he added.
