The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) paid GHC376 million life insurance to contributors in 2021, Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang, the Director General of the Trust has said.
In addition, he said the trust also paid disability insurance of GHC 18.4 million to 1,536 people with Disabilities (PWDs), including the youngest pensioner of 32years old and the longest pensioner of 80years old.
The longest pensioner, he explained was disabled two 30years ago when they were in active service.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM on the sidelines of an educational engagement forum in the Trust's pensions I'm Sunyani, the DG explained the SSNIT scheme was opened to all workers in the country.
De. Ofori Tenkorang therefore dispelled the wrong perception of section of the public that the scheme was limited only to workers of the public sector, saying currently the scheme had more private sector employees of about 63 percent contributing to the scheme.
The Trust organized the forum to sensitize leaders of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC) drawn from Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions on the Trust's pensions.
Dr Ofori Tenkorang said the Trust was set up to provide part of the list income and asked pensioners to be grateful and appreciate the trust for it's prompt payment of entitlement rather than.m criticizing the scheme unconstructively.
