The embattled National Service Scheme Director in the Ashanti region has been suspended after insulting a nurse on duty at the Manhyia District Hospital.
According to the Ghana National Service Scheme in a statement sighted by Sompa, the decision to suspend Alex Opoku-Mensah was taken at an emergency meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
“The management decision is to allow further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.
“Meanwhile, a committee comprising representatives from the National Service Scheme, the Public Services Commission, and the Ministry of Education, has been set up to investigate the matter and to submit its report to the NSS Management within one month.
Commenting on the suspension of the Ashanti Regional NSS Boss on Sompa Tv, Mr. Jones Afriyie Anto, the President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association said, the suspension is a coverup and demands an immediate sacking of Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah.
He threatened that there will be a sit-down strike at Manhyia government hospital by the nurses and midwives tomorrow if the Ashanti Regional National Service The Boss is not fired by the close of the day.
According to the chairman of the Ashanti Regional Midwives and Nurses Association, it's a disgrace to the entire association and the public at large, the kind of insult Mr. Opoku Mensah rained on the Nurse.
He appealed that it is the best thing to do, by sacking Mr. Opoku other than that, the entire nursing association will go on an indefinite strike.
