Hundreds of people thronged to Breman R/C pa primary school in the Suame Municipality in the Ashanti Region to celebrate their industrious son and member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu ((Sompahene), and his wife, Mrs. Irene Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu (Sompahemaa) for attaining their 5th year since enstoolment.
In a development that has enriched the cult of the already popular and highly respected majority leader, his pivotal role in the democratic culture of Ghana has been celebrated by the people of Suame.
The colorful event which took center stage of the farmer's day celebration witnessed a great cultural display with traditional leaders gracing the anniversary.
Mrs. Irene Kyei Mensah in her speech recounted how the honor of royalty was bestowed on her and her husband.
“The journey of this royal honor bestowed on my husband and I started when in our small way provided support to the vulnerable and marginalized groups in the Suame municipality. It was out of these good works that the chiefs and the members of the Suame municipality impressed upon the heart of the Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu || to enstool us as Somaphene and Sompahemaa of the Suame Municipality after 20 years of dedicated service to the people of Suame municipality” she recounted.
She expressed satisfaction with how helpful the husband has been over the years in supporting the less privileged in society through their foundation “Sompahemaa Foundation”.
Honorable Kyei Mensah thanked the chiefs and the people in his municipality for their support over the years and quashed speculations that his wife will take over from him when he runoff his stay in parliament, describing it as false.
“I'm highly indebted to the chiefs and my people for their support, I'm grateful and I want to assure all of you that, it's never true my wife will take over from me when I retired from parliament, we have not conceived that thought, kindly disregard those false stories, he said.
He continued by saying that his works for the municipality have has seen tremendous improvement across the length and breadth of the country and it's not surprising that he has been voted as the vice president of the commonwealth parliament.
He recounted that he has built over 54 schools, pipe-born water, roads, and hospitals.
“We have completed 47 kilometers of roads spread across the municipal, and by 2024, we would complete 84 kilometers in addition to the Suame interchange, I also extended the dual carriage to Afrancho,” he said.
He assured the people of his continuous support in bringing development to the municipality.
The chief of Nzema, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, heaped praise on the development chief for his massive development within the catchment of Kumasi metropolis, he charged him not to relent but to continue his good works to improve the livelihood of the good people of Suame.
The sompahemaa foundation, according to Mrs. Irene Kyei, has over the years offered support to inmates and hospitals across the region.
The donation includes medical care for two thousand five hundred and twenty-five (2525) inmates and officials of the Kumasi central prisons, a 3-day medical outreach exercise for three thousand four hundred and forty-four (3444) inmates, and officials of Nsawam Prisons, 31 impacts events, 10 scholarships to young women, two young women enrolled in the Ghana police service, and one at Ghana revenue authority, 10 industrial sewing machines to 10 young women, etc.
Among the dignitaries who trooped down to Breman to celebrate Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu was Bremanhene, Nana Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman, Nana Nkansa Boadu Ayeboafo, chief of Agric Nzema, Nana K Gyasi, Nana K Badu of Kaakyire Agro Chemicals and other dignitaries.
