The Bono Regional House of Chiefs on Monday admitted the Paramount Chiiefs into the House with call on kingmakers and queen mothers to pick qualified candidates as chiefs.
They are Odomfour Kwasi Apraku III, Paramount Chief of Odomase Number One, Nana Debrah Agyei, Paramount Chief of Siekwa and Odeneho Afram Brempong II, the Paramount Chief of Suma-Ahenkro Traditional Areas.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs who made the call stressed the house was working hard and assured that it would resolve all the pending chieftaincy disputes in the region by 2023.
Addressing the end of year meeting of the house in Sunyani, which saw the swearing in of the new Paramount chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II, also the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional l Area indicated that it remained the prerogative right of queen mothers to pick and enstooled rightful candidate when any time a stool become vacant.
He said though Kingmakers played instrumental role in the selection and enstoolment of Chiefs, the House had resolved that only rightful candidates picked or selected by queen mothers would be considered and enstooled.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo however cautioned queen mothers and king makes against act of corruption in the enstoolment of chiefs, a situation he added remained major factors contributing to chieftaincy disputes, threatening the prevailing peace of the region and drawback development.
As tradition demand, the Paramount Chief indicated that a rightful candidate could only be disqualified as a chief when the candidate was either convicted for a crime, disabled or promiscuous, saying apart from that and other crimes no queen mother or king maker had the right to disqualified any candidate.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II also advised queen mothers and king makers to conduct thorough background checks of candidates to ensure that they would not expose the noble chieftaincy institution into public ridicule and disrupt when they were enstooled.
He said protracted chieftaincy disputes remained the bane of socio-economic development in the region and advised traditional authorities to bury their differences, forged ahead in unity and collectively push the holistic development of the region.
Osageyo Oseadeeyo Badu II commended the government for the on-going construction works on the Sunyani-Inner city roads project being implemented by the Chinese Sino hydro Corporation which he said had beautify parts of the Sunyani Municipality.
He however expressed concern about deplorable condition of the Sunyani town roads and called on the government to reshape the roads.
Justice Patrick Bayeh, a supervising high Court Judge Judge in Sunyani later took the newly accepted Paramount chiefs through the oaths of secrecy allegiance and membership.
Justice Bayeh expressed concern about rising cases of land litigation in the region and asked the house to work hard and help tackle the cases and strengthen the prevailing peace of the region.
