The Most Rev Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist church Ghana has charged political parties to engage in issue based campaign and refrain from the attacking of their opponents.
He explained, Ghanaians are enlightened enough and have moved away from listening to mere insult when making electoral decisions.
Dr Boafo said, when politicians campaign on what they are capable of doing, it gives the electorate the opportunity to choose the best leader rather than using abusive words that could endanger the peace of the country.
Speaking at the 12th connexional Methodist Guild Ghana Officers Induction ceremony held at Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono region on Sunday January 22, the Presiding Bishop indicated, “If you are a leader of a political party and you want to embark on your campaign, you need to psyche your followers that campaign is not about insult but it’s about what you can do. Using abusive words on your opponents does not give the electorates enough reason to elect you. You must tell them what you are capable of doing.”
He admonished the youth to desist from being used by politicians to cause mayhem.
"Very soon the political parties would go on primaries to elect their Parliamentary and Presidential candidates and this is the time most of our young men are engage to perpetrate violence."
"It doesn't augur well for the youth of this country. I am urging them all to desist from allowing themselves to be used as a tool to ferment troubles."
