Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was fined for not wearing a seatbelt in a moving car while filming a social media video.
Lancashire police said it had issued a 42-year-old man from London with a conditional offer of Of a fixed penalty.
According to a BBC report, Mr. Sunak “fully accepts this was a mistake and has apologized” adding that he would pay the fine.
Sompa Tv reporter, Kingsley Brobbey reporting from the United Kingdom on Monday, January 23rd, 2023 said, passengers caught failing to wear a seatbelt when one is available can be fined £100.
According to him, the system does not exempt any individual or cooperate except the king of England.
Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers according to DVLA.
Being buckled up during a crash helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle; being completely ejected from a vehicle is almost always deadly.
For the safety of a driver, and passenger, it has been ascribed to the driving principle of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority of Ghana (DVLA) that car drivers and front-seat passengers must wear a seat belt unless they have a medical exemption certificate.
Section 119 of the road traffic regulations legislative instrument (LI) 2180 passed by the Parliament of Ghana in 2012, emphasizes the use of seatbelts in all vehicles.
The relevance of wearing seatbelts in Ghana has not seen much enforcement as compared to the western world. However, statistics from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) say available statics indicate that it recorded a margin of decrease in road fatalities in the country.
Between January to October 2022, a total of 325 deaths were recorded out of 1177 crashes as compared to 357 deaths recorded in 2021.
statics has revealed that 2022 saw a decrease of 4.67% as compared to 4.98% of 347 in 2021.
Death declined by 9% from 1250 people in January 2021 to May 2021 to 1140 during the same period in 2022, this echoes the figures from 2020, when the crash toll went down by 5.31% injuries by 2.9%, and deaths by 14.58%.
