Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has debunked rumours of restructuring the Ghana Education policy to allow students to spend four years at the Junior High School level and two years at the Senior High School level.
Speaking on Sompa Tv with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye, he indicated that the alleged policy is not an official initiative by the Ministry of Education and called the National Council of Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) to respond accordingly.
“The idea that Junior High School should become 4 years and Senior High School 2 years , it is not something that I will ever endorse. I’ve asked NaCCA to respond to it because it is not an official policy by the Ministry of Education. Somebody probably floated the idea,” he said.
The education sector has witnessed tremendous changes following the implementation of the Free SHS programme.
The Minister of Education maintained that the policy of the Ghana Education Service(GES) at the basic and senior high levels has not changed.
Meanwhile, NaCCA is yet to issue a statement as directed by Dr. Adutwum.
