Over 200 workers working on a 45 years old maternity and baby unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have been laid off due to financial challenge according to Sompa news reporter Bawa Baidoo.
The project which started by the former president of Ghana’ Ignatius Kutu Acheampong in 1976 is still under construction and have been awarded to UK base construction firm Contracta and has employ a number of workers however due to financial constraints, some workers have been laid off.
The project when completed will have 720 beds, lecture halls, restaurant, and operation theaters, among others.
It will be recall that, on May 15, 2020, President Akuffo Addo handed over the abandoned project to UK construction firm for its completion.
Some of these workers have expressed their worried on this move by Contracta and urged government to as a matter of urgency released fund for the commencement of the project.
