The Sunyani Municipal Assembly has set up 64-members task force to check recalcitrant commercial drivers against picking passengers along the at the Central Business District of the regional capital.
The task force comprises contingent of personnel selected from the police, Fire, Immigration, and Prisons as well as representatives from the GPRTU and city guards of the Municipal Assembly.
They would operate within the enclave of the CBD, arrest offending and recalcitrant drivers for prosecution to bring sanity in the enclave.
There was pandemonium in the early hours of Monday January 30, when some aggrieved commercial drivers operating at the Nana Bosoma Central Market besieged the CBD, insisting that until their colleagues who picked passengers within the enclave were moved away, there was no way they would also move from the CBD.
The situation led to a heavy human and vehicular traffic at the CBD, slowing down economic activities, however the intervention of the city authorities, the GPRTU and the police MTTD save the situation.
Mr John Ansu Kumi, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, who inaugurated the task force at a short ceremony in Sunyani, directed the members remain professional and guard against any misconduct that could affect their operations.
Superintendent Stephen Tenkorang, the Bono Regional Commander of the MTTD cautioned the task force against any act of corruption.
