The Minister for Health, Hon. Kweku Agyeman-Manu has inaugurated a 13-member board of the National Ambulance Service (NAS). This is the first governing board of the National Ambulance Service.
The Ag. Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Emma Ofori Agyeman in her welcome address said emergency care is a priority of the Ministry and it is necessary to put in measures and structure in order to achieve the goal of Universal Health Coverage.
Hon. Agyeman-Manu in his remarks congratulated the members of the board on their appointment to serve.
He said the Government recognises that healthcare is a basic right of all people and is necessary for society's economic and social development.
The Minister said it is his desire that the board members and the management of NAS work harmoniously to improve emergency care services.
Hon. Agyeman-Manu asks the board to support the NAS in its operations and growth with its diverse backgrounds and requisite expertise.
Nana Wiafe Ababio, the Chairman of the board expressed his appreciation to the President and the Minister for the confidence repose in the board members to serve on the first Governing Board of the National Ambulance Service.
He assured the Minister that the board members will ensure that the achievements of NAS are sustained and built upon and promises that all the needed cooperation will be provided to the management to improve emergency care across the country.
“The objectives of NAS are to save lives, reduce suffering, and enhance the quality of life in the health care delivery system of the country”.
The NAS expanded from just seven stations in three regions at its inception in 2004, to 297 stations across the country covering all 275 constituencies at the end of 2020.
The other members of the Board include Prof. Ahmed Nunu Zakaria, Dr. Eric Nsiah-Boateng, Mad. Fanny Simpson, Mr. Solomon Gbolo Gayoni, Mr. Richard Fediely, ACP. Dr. Samuel Kwame Ofori, Col. Gordon Alexis Obiri Appiah, Mr. Gaani Michael Dimongso, Dr. Kwaku Nyame, Mr. Abubakar Ramadan, Dr. Marion Okoh-Owusu and Hon. Solomon Namliit Boar.
