The Pensioners Bondholders Forum (PBF) says they will continue with its series of picketing activities at the premises of the Finance Ministry until its members are exempted from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), Dr. Adu Antwi has told Sompa news.
According to the group, until they have a total exemption from the D.D.E.P, they will continue to picket at the Finance Ministry every working hour.
The convener for the group, Dr.Adu Anane Antwi told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boachie on Sompa Tv, that if decision-makers have ever experienced any hardship in life after retirement, they wouldn't have thought of including the pensioners fund to the domestic debt exchange programme because most of the retirees are suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and other killable diseases as a result of the government's decision to include the pension fund in the DDEP.
According to Mr. Anane, continuous picketing action has become necessary as attempts to have their investment exempted from the program have proven futile causing a lot of mayhem for the pensioners.
Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, the convener for the forum lamented that if the government cannot plan a better life for retirees, he can't fathom why the state will rather use their hard earn money while they continue to suffer after retiring from active service.
“President Joe Biden, in his state of the nation address mentioned 9 times the need to support retirees how much more in Ghana, our only source of livelihood since the government doesn’t cater to or care about pensioners”.
He said they are only praying to God to give them the strength to go there every day to sit there for one hour. That’s why we brought our seats. If you can’t stand you sit down, people wanted to come with their wheelchairs, but we said no, it’s too risky, let the people who can come do that.
