Ghanaian football star, Christian Atsu Twasam who was trapped in the Turkey-Syria earthquake benevolence has come to light especially his involvement with Crime Check Foundation, releasing prisoners and helping them establish themselves.
As a result of his passing on, Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye in an interview with the Director of operations for the Ghana Prisons Service, DOP Samuel Owusu has revealed, that Christian Atsu in the last four years of his active life dedicated his life to helping prisoners by providing them medical assistance, paying bills, paying penalties to release convicts, and giving them business operating cash and other freebies, especially Nsawam inmates.
DOP Samuel Owusu described Atsu as down earth, respectful, and very easygoing person, he said the inmates after hearing that he has been trapped under the rubbles were praying for his survival however their hopes were dashed as the lifeless body of their source of happiness was found under the 7.8-magnitude quake.
”They were very sad and could not help but shed tears after hearing his passing on”, some even say there’s no hope again, he said.
He describes Atsu’s passing on as a great loss especially to the inmates because they feel all hope is lost for them since they have lost a friend, a brother, a sympathizer, and a great philanthropist and prayed that God keeps his soul.

The remains of former Ghana international footballer Christian Atsu who died in a devastating earthquake in Turkey were being flown home on Sunday, the country's foreign ministry said.
Atsu, 31, was caught up in a 7.8-magnitude quake that rocked Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing more than 44,000 people in both countries.
There were initial reports the former Chelsea and Newcastle player had been rescued a day after the quake, but these turned out to be false and his body was found on Saturday.
"The remains were accompanied by his family and Ghana's ambassador to Turkey on a Turkish airlines flight and arrived in Accra (Ghana's capital) at 7:40 p.m. Sunday,".
On Saturday, the ministry said that Atsu's older brother and twin sister were present at the site of the rescue when his body was recovered.
His widow Marie-Claire Rupio and their three children were in the stands at St James' Park on Saturday to join in a tribute to the player before Newcastle's Premier League match against Liverpool.
Atsu scored the last of his 33 career goals for Hatayspor in Turkey's Super Lig on February 5, hours before the quake struck.
"There are no words to describe our sadness," tweeted his Turkish top-flight club in homage to him.
"We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person."
