The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has threatened to picket at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) over the debt owed to them.
Vice President of the Association Mr Samuel Boakye Donkor served notice that from March 2, 2023, they will start picketing at the facility and demand payment of all debt owed to them.
He said “enough is enough; we need our money. We can no longer keep mute over it.”
Speaking in an interview with Nana Kwame Owusu Nkwantabisa, host of Ade Akyea Abiaa show on Sompa FM in Sunyani Tuesday, Mr Donkor said the action has become necessary as a means to register their displeasure for the government’s failure to timely remit service providers coupled with the continuous publications and imposition of unrealistic tariffs.
“These circumstances have brought nothing but untold challenges to health facilities providing care to NHIS cardholders. We are picketing on the 2nd of March, 2023 at the premises of the NHIA Head Office in Accra from 8am to 12noon and all regions are to organize not less than 20 members who are facility owners to join in the picketing”, he stressed.
Mr Donkor explained that they are unable to pay salaries and SSNIT contributions of their workers.
“What we are doing has nothing to do with politics but to save our facilities from collapsing. This is the time to demand for fairness. We are making this bold statement to the government that it is prudent on their part to take healthcare in the country very seriously.”
