A retired Methodist Bishop, Right Reverend Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu has blamed the Ghanaian media and the attacks wielded against the clergy by the NDC fanatics as the main cause of the supposed silence of the men of the God in the country.
Speaking to SOMPA NEWS on Monday 27th February, 2023, the outspoken Bishop said most of the clergy had spoken against decisions and the actions of the Nana Addo led NPP government but the media have refused to report them.
He said such attitude of the media have portrayed to the public that they are not interested in condemning the current government though church leaders have repeatedly spoken against the leadership style of Nana Akuffo Addo.
Speaking at the induction ceremony of the new General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, former President John Mahama said the church must not be selective when criticizing those at the helm of the country’s affairs.
The former President further commended the Ghana Pentecostal Council for their recent suggestions to the government on how to address the current economic challenges, adding that such gestures must be done regardless of the party in power.
But Bishop Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu accused the Ghanaian journalists of being selective and biased in reporting issues and stories that go against the NPP government.
”Most of us have spoken against the ills of Nana Addo government but it seems the journalists are not interested in the issues we raised. We can’t buy fuel and my funds are locked up at the Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum’s bank. I have said it repeatedly but it seems the journalists are not interested in telling the masses of our disappointment in the government.” Bishop Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu asserted during the interview.
The former bishop of the Amakom Methodist Church also attributed the apparent silence of most clergy to the NDC supporters’ wild attacks on the clergy whenever they speak against their leadership style when they were in power.
He indicated that the situation had led to the silence on the part of most men of God especially under the Nana Addo government because of the NDC supporters’ posture.
