The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency of the Volta region and ranking member of the foreign affairs committee in Ghana’s Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on President Akuffo-Addo to cancel the national cathedral contract to save cost.
He explained, “Today 14th March is exactly one year since the national cathedral project was abandoned where no work was going on and this has continued till today.”
Mr Okudzato added that, per the contract signed, whether the project goes on or not, government would have to be paying the agreed sum of the money.
He is therefore calling for the cancellation of the contract in order to stop all those payments including the people that has been engaged at the cathedral secretariat since there is no work on going.
“It is about time the National Cathedral projects be cancel, board of trustees should be dissolved, the secretariat must be close down and everybody should go home to let us save money." he said.
The North Tongu MP lauded Speaker, Alban Bagbin for admitting the Minority’s Private Members’ Motion to investigate the National Cathedral Project.
The motion, sponsored by Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, and Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah among others, will, if carried by the House, see a committee constituted “to conduct an inquiry into the National Cathedral of Ghana project and all related matters.”
