GNFS saves 217 shops from total fire ruins at the affected Kejetia Market and commences investigation to unravel the origin and cause of the fire. It took 3 hours for the gallant and dexterous Firefighters to completely extinguish the raging fire at the affected portion of the Kejetia Market.
The first fire engine got to the fire scene at 1633 hours and it took 49 minutes to bring the fierce fire under control at 1716 hours with the support of the activation of the automatic firefighting system at the facility. 5 other fire engines and a TL were mobilized and arrived at the fire scene to augment with firefighting.
Hundreds of Occupants were safely rescued and evacuated from the smoky and fire ridden portion of the Kejetia market by the Firefighters and Rescuers at the time of the fire. 6 Civilian Casualties were recorded. 2 of the injured were sent to the Manhyia Government Hospital while the other 4 were sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
30 shops used for the sale of hardware materials including carbide, turpentine, paints and other highly flammable solvents were extensively damaged. 3 shops and their contents in the enclave were also partially damaged by the ruinous fire. 217 out of 250 shops and their contents at the affected extension end of the Kejetia Market were salvaged from the ruinous fire by gallant Firefighters.
Kudos to the Firefighters from the Kejetia Fire Post, Kumasi Metro, Komfo Anokye, Manhyia, Regional Headquarters SubStation, Breman and KNUST Fire Stations for the yeoman’s job.
