The Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has recommended closure of the Kumasi Kejetia Market for three working days after fire gutted the market on Wednesday.
This, he, said will give management of the market and technical team enough time to assess the level of damage caused by the fire and fix them appropriately.
The minister made the statement when addressing the media while touring the fire ravaged Kejetia Market on Thursday.
The fire which ravaged parts of the newly built market called by locals as ‘Dubai’ begun at about 4:30 in the evening.
Fire officials fought to put out the fire.The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Traders who witnessed the incident stood helpless and some wailed as their goods were consumed by the fire.
The managers of the facility – Kumasi City Markets Ltd – hours after the incident said the fire has caused huge loss of properties.
They indicated that the closure is to pave way for investigations to commence and to prevent any obstructions to the process and to establish the root cause of the disaster.
