Mr. Boakye Osei-Bonsu and Chief Asafo Boakye, two United States based philanthropists, have donated 26 dialysis chairs valued at $52,000.00 to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The chairs were received by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, with the support of two Board Members, Mr. Charles Dontoh and Dr. Caroline Reindorf Amissah, at a short ceremony at the hospital today.
In a speech, Prof. Addai-Mensah acknowledged with gratitude the generous support Mr. Osei- Bonsu and Chief Asafo Boakye have given to the hospital with the donation of the 26 chairs.
He appealed to Mr. Osei-Bonsu to use his contacts with the Ghanaian community and other networks in the USA to mobilise for the donation of a Mammogram machine to the hospital as it was in dire need of one to aid in the screening and diagnosis of breast cancer cases.
Mr. Osei-Bonsu disclosed that with the help of Chief Asafo Boakye, the $52,000 was raised to mobilise and ship the dialysis chairs to Ghana. He further stated that instead of bringing the chairs to sell, they decided to donate them to KATH to help improve dialysis services to the people of Ghana.
He urged Ghanaians living in the diaspora to come together and help make KATH a better health institution for both patients and workers.
Other hospital officials present at the ceremony were the Director for Human Resource Management, Mr. Anthony Kofi Oduro, and Dr. Mrs. Perditer Okyere, Head of the Dialysis Unit. The donation to the hospital was coordinated by Mr. Kwasi Ofori-Agyemang, former Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi.
