Officers and inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons (NMSP), yesterday Thursday 16th March, 2023, organized a special football match in honour of the late Christian Atsu Twasam, who was popularly known in football circles as Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian professional footballer.
The event took place at the NMSP in Nsawam, and brought together some heads of the Prisons Service, media personalities, popular football players and religious leaders. Earlier, a memorial church service was held in his honour at the Church Hall of the NMSP.
A tribute was read on behalf of the inmates by the National leader, Mr. Yebson Dwamena. The late football player was commended for his benevolence and his love for humanity especially prisoners. He was also praised for settling fines and penalties for some prisoners and further ensuring they have a second chance of living better lives upon discharge.
Before the start of the Special football match, a minute silence was observed in honour of the late professional football player. The competition ended successfully by officers winning 2-0 against inmates.
In attendance were the Director of Prisons in charge of Agriculture, Mr. Hanson Adu-Awuku (who represented the Director General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir); the Director of Prisons in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Owusu Amponsah, the Eastern Regional Commander, DDP Kwaku Ali Ababio ; the Chaplain-General of the Service, Rev. Canon ADP. Selwyn Sylvester Adama Okai and the Chaplain of the NMSP, Rev. Father ADP. Martin Teye Padi.
Also present were the Officer in charge of Nsawam Camp Prison, ADP Joseph Vuu; the Third in command of the NMSP, ADP Joseph Nyankey, Officer in charge of Sports and Operations, ADP Nii Armah Aryeetey; and the Chief Public Relations Officer, CSP Vitalis AIyeh.
Others were the President of Cheetah football club, Mr. Abdul-Hayye Yartey; Samuel Incoom and Richard Attah, both of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting club; and members of Crime Check Foundation, led by the Executive Director, Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng.
