About 70 percent of poultry farms in the Dormaa Municipality has virtually collaped due to the Russian-Ukraine invasion, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister has said.
She said as the major exporter of Soya beans and wheat bran into the country, the devastating impact of the war on Ukraine had subsequently affected Ghana, making it extremely difficult for the poultry farmers to get the required quantities of feed for their birds, thereby collapsing the industry.
The Regional Minister made this known when speaking at the opening session of 2023 Annual Conference and exhibition of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), underway in Sunyani.
The five-day conference being attended by more than 200 insurance brokers and companies is on the theme "the effect of the global economic challenges on the Ghanaian Insurance industry".
Mad Owusu-Banahene regretted that the because many of the youth in the Dormaa Municipality were poultry farmers, the collapsed of their farms had rendered them jobless, thereby contributing to increased in robberies and galamsey activities.
Describing the situation as Serious, the Regional Minister therefore entreated the insurance companies to come to the aid of the poultry farmers to enable them revive their businesses to well position them to fend for themselves and their families and live decent lives as well.
Professor Justice Ofori, the Commissioner of Insurance, National Insurance Commission called on the Association to work hard and contribute to the economic recovery of the devastating impact of the COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war on the nation.
He said the country had not been spared on the global economic shocks, and urged the insurance companies to protect the interest of policy holders.
