The minister of education and MP for Bosomtwe constituency of the Ashanti region, Yaw Osei Adutwum has stated that government has spent Gh¢ 5.119.794.501.22 billion on Free SHS policy from 2017 to 2021.
He explained that, under the review period of 2017 - 2021 the ministry's approved budget allocation for the implementation of the Free SHS program amounted to GH¢ 7.623.789.456.00 billion out of which Gh¢ 5.182.205.131.91 billion was released by the ministry finance to the ministry of education for the execution of the Free SHS program.
The total expenditure for the period of 2017-2021 amounted to Five billion, One Hundred and Nineteen Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety-four Thousand, Five Hundred and One, Twenty- two pesewas.
"The government of H.E Nana Akuffo-Addo introduced the Free SHS program to improve access and quality of secondary education in Ghana. The policy since its inception has contributed to improving learning outcome in the senior high schools", he elaborated.
The minister made this known when answering parliamentary questions posed to him by minority member of Parliament for Akatsi North, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, who wanted to know how much government has spent on the Free Senior High School programme between 2017 and 2021.
