In line with custom and tradition, the family of the late New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region, the late Hon. Philip Atta Basoah, called on the leadership of the Party at its headquarters in Accra on Friday, March 31, 2023, to officially announce his death, and the arrangements made so far for his One Week Observation and final funeral rites.
The delegation of the bereaved family was received by Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP. He was flanked by Mr. William Yamoah, Director for Finance and Administration, and other national officers of the Party.
In his opening remarks, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, once again, extended heartfelt condolences to the widow, children, and the extended family of the late legislator on his behalf, and on behalf of the NPP. He paid brief tribute to the late MP, describing him as, "an illustrious politician who made a lasting impression on his constituents." He added that the late Hon. Basoah was a very patriotic citizen who devoted his life to public service, having served as District Chief Executive of the Sekyere East District from 2005 to 2009, and as a Member of Parliament from 2013 until the time of his passing. The General Secretary admitted that news of the untimely demise of the deceased came as a shock to Ghanaians, especially the leadership and members of the New Patriotic Party as well as the good people of Kumawu.
Concluding his remarks, Lawyer Justin Kodua assured the family that the NPP would give the late Hon. Member of Parliament a befitting farewell to honour him for his years of service and dedication to the cause of the Party and to the development of Ghana.
The family disclosed that it was in consultation with the Parliament of Ghana, government, and other stakeholders to agree on the dates for the One Week celebration, burial, and final funeral rites of the deceased, and would communicate same in due course.
