The Amanful Adwinadze family in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Friday, March 31, 2023, took matters unlikely with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital morgue personnel upon realizing the mortal remains of their relative had been mistaken and given to a different family for burial.
The deceased, Albert Kingsley Annan-Biney, 74, who died on October 12, 2022, had been buried for almost five (5) months before his family had a hint of the shocking incident.
The family had gone for the body of their relative but trek to Putubiw Apewosika in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District in the Central Region to exhume the decomposing body of their relative for reburial in Cape Coast after a brawl with the hospital's mortuary attendants.
Some family members who narrated the incident to Sompa News reporter Eric Annan over their bitter experience attributed the challenge to the negligence of morgue personnels at the Cape Coast-Bakaano Metro Hospital.
They alleged some mortuary attendants often drink and smoke whiles on duty.
An act, many times leads them to commit such unpardonable mistakes.
Nana Ama Ensiah, the deceased's last born blamed the father's family for the problem after they refused to bury both the old man and his dead son on the same day.
A tussled-over situation which led to the man's extended period at the mortuary for it to later be exchanged.
According to her, the final funeral rite observed in respect of the late father considering the circumstances surrounding his burial demeans the old man's standard of having lived a noble life whiles alive.
Emmanuel Ato Mensah popularly known as 'Rasta', Incharge of the Cape Coast Metro Hospital's Mortuary Department speaking to the incident over the leveled allegation of indulging in hard drugs and alcohol while on duty, discredited the accusation as falsehood.
He said the incident came as a shock to the mortuary attendants at the hospital having experienced the occurrence for the first.
The mortuary attendant further noted that the situation being peddled within Cape Coast wasn't a calculated effort but one of those rare errors mostly encountered by institutions across the globe.
