Vice Chancellor for the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong has shared his frustration over the fact that most students at the tertiary institution lodge at different private hostels in and around campus.
This situation has contributed to the school's recorded theft and robbery attacks launched on students by unknown criminals over the years.
Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong speaking at the school's 2nd session of its 55th congregation said the unfortunate occurrences have potentially undermined the university's collective efforts of securing safety for its students.
He told Sompa TV/FM reporter Eric Annan that the tertiary institution presently cannot boost of enough residences to accommodate all its students, as various memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with several companies to aid the school to establish enough residential facilities for its students has proven futile.
The professor called on the government and stakeholders to assist the university to expand its accommodation tentacles by building a befitting residential facility for its on-campus students for effective teaching and learning.
To it, he disclosed the university is battling for inadequate office space for lecturers, having had previous successive administrative leaders play instrumental roles in constructing many teaching and learning spaces for the school.
He said, the university recently cut sod for the construction of the College of Health and Allied Sciences building complex which encompasses laboratories and offices for academic staff, as its completion will help relieve lecturers from the inconvenient constraint of having to share office spaces.
