The Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MoTAC) Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Awal says his outfit has set a three (3) million-dollar revenue target from tourism-related activities for 2023. He added that the revenue projection is to be made from 1.5 million tourists expected to visit the country.
Dr Awal made this comment at a staff durbar of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture held at the National Theatre in Accra on Friday, 31st March 2023.
Dr, Awal indicated that, given the large number of tourists expected both domestic and International, measures had been put in place to modernize the various tourists sites in the country.
He noted that tourism generated 2.4 million dollars in 2022 from one million visitors who came into the country.
The Minister stated that as part of efforts to increase the number of visitations to Ghana, there would be an intensification of outreach activities in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe as well as Nigeria.
The minister said that Ghana has been named one of the best tourist destinations from the United Kingdom, France, China and Germany, and this achievement is attributed to the collective effort of both management and staff.
He added that the current financial challenges would improve by end of May when the country would have gone through the process of securing a loan from the International Monetary Fund. Loan.
He thanked management and staff for their hard work but urged them to improve their performance for this year.
On his part, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr John Yao Agbeko welcomed the Minister, Management and Staff to the first staff durbar for 2023.
He stated that the meeting was to consider work done for the first quarter and use the time to strategize for the rest of the year.
Mr Agbeko remarked that the financial challenges of the country have negatively affected the budgetary allocation and financial releases of the ministry and hoped that the situation would improve.
The meeting afforded both management and staff the opportunity to interact and ask questions bordering on logistics, staff welfare, transportation, office space, professional development, and capacity building.
