Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has appealed to the Nana Addo-led government to consider implementing a national policy on guidance and counseling.
According to him, guidance and counseling is a tool that helps shape one's life for a better tomorrow, particularly for young people.
He made this appeal at his maiden inaugural lecture dubbed, "Through The Changing Scenes of Life: Finding A Fit In The World of Work." at UCC's School of Medical Sciences (SMS) auditorium.
The well-attended ceremony saw reputable individuals like Hon. Dr.
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy and immediate past Minister of Education, the Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, and Prof.
Johnson Nyarko Boampong, Vice-Chancellor of UCC.
The soft-spoken professor, in an interview with Sompa News reporter Eric Annan, highlighted the importance of guidance and counseling in the growth of Ghanaian youth.
He called on the government to take a critical look at their development to better shape the future generation.
He appealed to parents to allow their children to have a say in their career choices by guiding and counseling them.
The professor advised youths to look for career opportunities that best fit their capabilities in their quest for employment, to not add to the number of unemployed individuals.
At the tail end of his well-segmented program, Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson was colorfully ushered in as part of the university's College of Professors.
