The National Communication Authority (NCA) has ordered the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to deactivate all SIM cards which have not been re-registered with Ghana cards.
The SIM cards re-registration exercise since its commencement has received different views and challenges with respect to some individuals not being able to get their Ghana cards for the exercise.
With government prioritizing the digitization agenda and trying to ensure a proper database system for citizens, individuals who have still not completed the re-registration process are expected to lose their SIM cards from today Monday April 17, 2023.
The Telecom operators are also expected to submit the number of SIM cards disconnected to the NCA.
According to the Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, his outfit will cooperate with NCA in this exercise.
“The regulator has given timelines, from the perspective of the regulator, these things have been happening previously. We will cooperate with the regulator.”
