Abesim, a suburb of the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono region is having a high teenage pregnancy rate, the municipal Chief Executive has said.
The Municipality, according to the MCE, is also in lead of HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country.
Hon John Ansu Kumi explained Assembly Members have been urged to invite health service personnel to their electoral areas to provide education to residents on HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy.
Speaking at the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly on Wednesday April 19, Mr. Ansu Kumi indicated, "In order to make healthcare accessible to a lot more people in the Municipality, there has been re-demarcation of Yawhima and Kotokrom into sub CHPS zones."
"COVID-19 vaccination is ongoing and members are encouraged to urge to take the vaccine. Malaria vaccines are being administered to children as well to prevent malaria", he added.
The MCE stressed the District Health Directorate is implementing a new strategy called the Network of Practice (NTP) which seeks to achieve the goal of universal health coverage and to link the services in all health facilities so that patients can receive treatment in the various facilities.
"It is cost effective to both the patients and the health facility. Abesim will be the hub of implementation of NTP strategy. Sensitization has begun and the next stage will be community meetings."
The MCE revealed the challenge of sanitation continue to occupy the centre of the Assembly's delivery in 2023. He indicated that the dumping of refuse on pay-as -you dump basis is ongoing and there has been a remarkable improvement in the cleanliness at the dumping sites.
This, according to the MCE has helped to reduce the haphazard dumping of waste in the various communities in the municipality.
