Hon John Ansu Kumi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani has stated that, the Municipality enjoyed tremendous peace and calm in the year 2022 and commended the security agencies for conducting their activities professionally.
The MCE, however, encouraged Assembly Members to work with the Police to form Community watch committees in their respective electoral areas to help curb some of the security challenges.
"I am happy to state that the Sunyani Municipality continue to enjoy tremendous calm and peace over the past year. On this score, I wish to commend the security agencies for conducting their activities professionally and being on top of the security issues in the Municipality."
Hon Ansu Kumi, during the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly held on Wednesday April 19 indicated that the formation of the community watch committees would help to support the Police with the needed and vital information that is necessary to enable them carry out their mandate effectively.
"Assembly Members are therefore encouraged to collaborate with the security agencies in their individual electoral areas to enable them identify and deal with the security issues there."
He disclosed that the task force inaugurated on 7th February 2023 to maintain sanity, ensure free movement of both vehicles and pedestrians in the Sunyani township have operated creditably and are achieving it's intended purpose.
"The Assembly, upon the request of the regional Police administration, has paid an amount of GHC 57,720.00 as one year rent doe an eleven (11) room accommodation at Newton to enable the Police administration post a contingent of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) under the Ghana Police Service to the Municipality", he stated.
