A 4days training workshop for trainers has been held by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at the Nsawam Camp Prison.
The workshop which was opened on the 2nd May, 2023 included 28 participants from the Ankaful Maximum Prison, Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Nsawam Female Prison, Nsawam Camp Prison and the Prisons Officers Training School (POTS).
The participants were taken through the Mandela Rules, Risk and Needs Assessment of Prisoners, Classification of Prisoners, Sentence Planning and the Diagnostic Centre Model.
The Eastern regional commander and officer in charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, DDP. Kwaku Ali Ababio in his welcome address, emphasized on the importance of classification of prisoners and its contribution towards rehabilitation and reintegration of prison inmates back into the society.
Present at the brief openining ceremony were the Second in Command at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, DDP. Fiifi Dontoh, the Second in Command at the Ankaful Maximum Prison, DDP. Edward Eshun, Officer in charge of Nsawam Camp Prison, ADP. Joseph Vuu and the Officer in charge of the Nsawam Female Prison, ADP. Victoria Adzawudah.
The rest were Mr Andres Bascondes, UNODC Coordinator, Dr. Thomas Akoensi, UNODC Project Coordinator and some senior officers from the selected prison facilities.
