With the opening of yet another new National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS District office, residents of the municipalities of Ejisu and Juaben can finally sigh with relief.
The Chief of Ejisu Nana Afrane Okese IV generously donated a plot of land for the construction of the office in response to the Municipality’s request for an NHIS office. Residents of the twin settlements of Ejisu and Juaben will be served by the office.
The Ejisumanhene Nana Afrane Okese IV, who was represented by the Odikro of Ejisuman at the brief ceremony in Ejisu to commission the building, commended the NHIA for constructing the structure for the benefit of the residents of Ejisuman and Juabenman.
The CEO of the NHIA, Dr. Okoe Boye who commissioned the building together with the management of the Authority said the focus is still to make the NHIS more sustainable for the people.
He stated that the Authority over the past year had increased tariffs paid to providers which have resulted in the increase of claims payments from a previous Ghc100 million to Ghc150 million every month.
The upward adjustment occurred following calls by providers to increase the NHIS tariffs to realistic market rates which would ensure that NHIS members get continuous access to quality healthcare.
By doing this, the Authority also anticipated that healthcare providers will stop illegal charges demanded from NHIS members.
Having health insurance, Dr. Okoe Boye continued, is crucial and would come in handy in difficult times despite the few obstacles. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to preserving the NHIS and expressed gratitude to the Omanhene for donating the piece of land to the benefit of the residents of Ejisu and Juaben Municipality.
He advised the employees of the Ejisuman Juaben Office to embrace a maintenance culture in order to preserve the office that was being opened for the municipality.
In a Speech read on behalf of the MP for Ejisu, Hon. John Kumah, he thanked the chief of Ejisu for donating the site for the building of the office to better serve his people and complimented management for launching the MyNHIS app.
This week alone, the NHIA management has commissioned three offices in the Ashanti Region, these are Obuasi District Office, Atwima Kwanwoma and the Ejisu Juaben District offices.
